I created TheQuickBatt in 2015 and then got busy working, advising, raising kids and living. I’m still doing all of that, but figured it was time to get back to this. By this, I mean writing. I have been covering the Franklin Lions’ football playoff games for the Franklin News Weekly the past five weeks leading up to their return trip to the Class 3A Division II championship game this week.
I figured this would be a good spot to post those game stories, so more eyes could see them. It’s been fun chronicling these games and talking to some of the Lions’ amazing student-athletes after each game. It’s also cool to give my son, Jensen Pils, a hug on the field after the game. It’s not exactly unbiased reporting, because I’m certainly cheering in the stands. There’s no way I could cover this from the press box. I’d get kicked out real quick.
Hope you’ll enjoy these stories and those that come after.
By the way, TheQuickBatt isn’t misspelled. It’s supposed to be an homage to the place where I first learned to write, The Battalion at Texas A&M, and to the sport that made me a sports fan, baseball. Funny thing is, I never had a quick bat. I was all field, no hit.
